BISA is the British International Spa Association – set up to establish standards and quality

The British International Spa Association was set up in 1998 by a group of professionals within the Beauty, Spa and Education fields. They all had one aim in common - to promote minimum standards of quality and service within the Spa Industry, and also to improve and promote education for spa therapists. The Association is entirely self funding, and all members of the Council are volunteers, giving their time and expertise free of charge.

The main objectives of the BISA Council are:

  • To set minimum standards of quality and service
  • To act as an educational platform for the public
  • To act as an educational platform for the trade outlets involved in spa services
  • To work alongside Spa Centres to advise and source hardware and consumables
  • To supervise Training Schools designed to raise the UK standard in spa treatments and therapy, and certify a Spa Therapy qualification for appointed schools
  • To have a grading system for spa outlets
  • The Association reserves the right to have yearly checks on standards and facilities, and certify levels attained for both spas and schools
  • To use PR and the media to promote the Association and its members
  • To provide a Newsletter and encourage members to write in and share their views

The Spa Business Association is the single trade body for the spa sector in the UK and Ireland. Members are drawn from all involved in this vibrant and rapidly-growing area, to form a collaborative and inclusive association which can truly represent with "one voice" the many interests of the sector. Our audiences include government, media, investors, legislative bodies and consumers, as well as the membership itself, to increase awareness of:

  • The spa sector's value to the economy
  • The benefits our members provide to the health and well-being of the nation
  • The need for standards and accreditation and professionalism within the sector
  • The need for the quality and quantity of therapists within the industry

The IoD is your representative in business. These points make up the philiosophy:

Helping you develop your ideas in a manageable way

As a director, you’re likely to be entrepreneurial, but your good ideas need to sit within a framework of plans and controls as well as market knowledge.

Representing your point of view

As an independent association of individual company directors, our objective is to make sure your views are taken into account when the government is reviewing policy; legislating or simply seeking views of the wider business community.

Promoting professionalism in the boardroom

Directors realise that high standards of excellence and professionalism in the boardroom are essential for business success. The IoD has been supporting directors in their professional development for many years.

The IoD is a non party-political business organisation founded by Royal Charter in 1903, currently with around 55,000 members.

The IoD has always championed the entrepreneur and seeks to provide an environment conducive to business success. For any company to prosper, directors will be continually engaged in making decisions involving innovation, risk and investment. Entrepreneurial activity needs to take place within a solid, strategic framework.

Informed decisions depend upon knowledge and experience. The IoD has always been dedicated to providing directors with the information and advice they require to help their business succeed.
